A little bit about Alayna…

I was born in Ottawa, ON to a family that encouraged learning, personal development, critical thinking, and laughter. I went on to earn a BSc in Marine Sciences from Dalhousie University, a BEd in Experiential Education from Queen’s University, and eventually an MA in Counselling Psychology from Adler University.

Over the last 20+ years I’ve worked with diverse populations across a range of educational settings both within Canada and Internationally. Most recently this has been as a Registered Clinical Counsellor and the Director of Clinical Training in BCIT’s counselling department in Burnaby, BC.

My approach to counselling involves facilitating a collaborative process for clients to identify, critically analyze, and transcend limiting beliefs that inhibit psychological maturation and full expression of desire. I enjoy working with clients who are highly motivated, thoughtful, courageous, and creative. I don’t believe in taboos, and am always excited to help clients find acceptance and empowerment at the edges of their perceptual frames of reference. I use my insatiable curiosity, love of adventure, and passion for independent thought and creative adaptation in my work; as well as the models and insights gained during my broad education, life experience, and additional clinical trainings in CBT, Sex Therapy, DBT, Crucible Couples Therapy, Trauma-informed practice, Clinical Supervision, etc.
